| Amazing grace, how sweet the sound That saved a wretch like me. I once was lost, but now I’m found– Was blind but now I see. Hallelujah, Christ is risen from the grave. Hallelujah, Christ is risen from the grave. The prodigal is welcomed home, The sinner now a saint. For the God who died came back to life And everything has changed. Hallelujah, Christ is risen from the grave. Hallelujah, Christ is risen from the grave. O Death, where is your sting? O Fear, where is your power? | The mighty King of kings has disarmed you. Delivered and redeemed, eternal life is ours. Oh praise His name forever. Hallelujah, Christ is risen from the grave. Hallelujah, Christ is risen from the grave. And all throughout eternity, Our song will be the same. Hallelujah, Christ is risen from the grave. On the day You call me in To heaven’s sweet embrace, I’ll see Your scars, Your open arms, The beauty of Your face. Through tears of joy, I’ll lift my voice in everlasting praise. Hallelujah, Christ is risen from the grave. |
“Hallelujah!” or “God be praised!” Praise God! In almost each stanza of this hymn, a “hallelujah” is exclaimed. And why? Christ is risen from the grave! “Christ Is Risen,” written by Brian Johnson, Mack Brock, and Phil Wickham, declares the powerful implications of Christ’s physical and bodily resurrection from the dead.
In His death and resurrection, we experience matchless and amazing grace! “Amazing grace, how sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me” (on a side note, what a joy it is to see the hymns of old find new avenues to stay relevant today!). By the sacrifice and resurrection of Christ, the lost are welcomed home; sinners become saints; the blind see! What wonderful news–the resurrection of Christ brings life change to all who believe!
In His death and resurrection, He has disarmed the power of death and hell. Paul quotes the prophet Hosea: “O Death, where is your sting? O Hades, where is your victory?” (1 Corinthians 15:55 NKJV). Because He is alive, death has no sting, fear has no power, hell has no victory. Therefore, praise God! Hallelujah! Christ is risen from the grave!
Risen, conquering King, we praise You. All of creation submits to Your authority. Because You defeated the grave, we sinners can experience grace upon grace, and we can be called saints. Because You rose, death and fear have no power; You alone are ruler of this world, and everything that occurs is filtered through Your sovereignty. We praise You because You are alive! Thank You for your saving work. Amen.
