Call On The Name

I’ve heard about Your saving grace,
The gift of Your salvation.
Is it true that anyone who calls
Upon Your name
Is welcomed in Your kingdom?

I’ve seen You love a wretch like me;
I’ve seen You heal the hurting.
To the restless, anxious, wandering heart–
It’s such good news;
My soul can stop its searching.

I call on the name of Jesus.
I want to be saved,
I never want to be the same.
This life I’m living: it’s all Yours,
It’s all Yours.
Teach my soul to trust in You;
Teach my ears to listen.
With all my heart,
I want to sing the praise You’re due,
And follow in Your wisdom.

I trust in the name of Jesus.
I’m choosing today:
I never want to be the same.
This life I’m leading: it’s all Yours,
It’s all Yours.

I believe that Jesus Christ is Lord;
I believe He rose up from the grave.
I believe that God so loved the world,
That He sent His only Son to save.

Paul quotes the prophet Joel when he writes to the Romans that “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved” (Romans 10:13 NLT). The apostle actually quotes more Scripture in this part of the Roman letter: “For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by openly declaring your faith that you are saved. As the Scriptures tell us, ‘Anyone who trusts in Him will never be disgraced [Isaiah 28:16].’ Jew and Gentile are the same in this respect. They have the same Lord, who gives generously to all who call on Him” (Romans 10:10–12 NLT).

Cody Carnes, Aodhan King, Ben Tan, and Chris Davenport crafted a simple hymn of response in “Call On The Name.” The verses remind us what God has done for us: “I’ve heard about Your saving grace,” “I’ve seen You love a wretch like me.” The chorus declares a desire to trust Jesus for salvation: “I call on the name of Jesus. I want to be saved…” From the one crying out for the first time to the veteran believer, the chorus declares a simple truth: Jesus Christ saves, and we continually devote ourselves to Him. The bridge of the hymn, drawing famously from John 3:16, declares the simple gospel truth in the fashion of the early creeds: “I believe that Jesus Christ is Lord. I believe He rose up from the grave. I believe that God so loved the world that He sent His only Son to save.” It’s a simple message that we must preach to ourselves daily: Jesus Christ is the Savior, and we trust Him for it.Savior of all, may we never grow calloused to the gospel of Jesus Christ. Whether we are new to the faith or have been devoted followers of Jesus for many years, remind us of the marvelous grace bestowed on us and help us to continually preach the gospel to ourselves. You are Lord, You are Savior, and You are King! Amen.
