| Blessed are those who run to Him, Who place their hope and confidence in Jesus; He won’t forsake them. Blessed are those who seek His face, Who bend their knee And fix their gaze on Jesus; They won’t be shaken. Come on and praise the Lord with me. Sing if you love His name. Come on and lift your voice with me; He’s worthy of all our praise. Come on and bring your offering. Sing if you’ve known His grace. Come on and lift up your holy hands; He’s worthy of all our praise. Blessed are those who walk with Him, Whose hearts are set on pilgrimage With Jesus; They’ll see His glory. | Blessed are those who die to live, Whose joy it is to give it all for Jesus And for Him only. Oh Jesus, all for Your glory. Bless God in the sanctuary, Bless God in the fields of plenty, Bless God in the darkest valley; Every chance I get, I bless Your name. Bless God when my hands are empty, Bless God with a praise that costs me, Bless God when nobody’s watching; Every chance I get, I bless Your name. Bless God when the weapon’s forming, Bless God when the walls are falling, Bless God because He goes before me; Every chance I get, I bless Your name. Bless God for He holds the victory, Bless God for He’s always with me, Bless God for He’s always worthy; Every chance I get, I bless Your name. |
The Psalms are filled with the call to bless God. Take Psalm 103:1, “Bless the Lord, O my soul; and all that is within me, bless His holy Name!” (NKJV). Or Psalm 145:1, “I will extol You, my God, O King; and I will bless Your Name forever and ever” (NKJV). Maybe you often think of God blessing us, but what about us, the people of God, blessing Him? When God blesses us, we are helped, we are given a provision of any sort (whether physical, spiritual, or a combination). But when we bless God, we cannot help Him or provide for Him. John Piper notes that if God is the Blesser, then He must be the ultimate Blessed; therefore, it would be quite appropriate to praise Him with “You are blessed!”[1] Thank Him for His loftiness, His glory! Our God, most blessed of all, we thank You for Your abundant majesty and goodness. Because of Your transcendence, our right response is to praise You at every chance. May You be pleased with our lives, and help us to join in with all of creation in worship, because You alone deserve worship and are worthy of it. We will “Bless God in the sanctuary, bless God in the fields of plenty, [and] bless God in the darkest valley.” Every chance we get, we will exalt Your holy Name. Amen.
