BAPTISM @ CFBC
Baptism is one of the most joyful moments in the life of a believer. It’s a public declaration of the gospel’s saving power and a powerful step in pursuing Christ at every crossroad.
WHAT IS BAPTISM?
WHY SHOULD I BE IMMERSED?
We practice baptism by immersion, meaning we submerge people completely under the water. Some traditions sprinkle or pour water as a baptism, but we want people to experience the fullness of what God wants for them in this act, which is found through immersion. Why?
Because that’s the literal meaning of baptize.
The New Testament of the Bible was written in Greek, and the Greek word for baptize, which is baptizō, means to submerge underwater.
Because that’s how Jesus was baptized
“In those days Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. And when he came up out of the water, immediately he saw the heavens being torn open and the Spirit descending on him like a dove,”
(Mark 1:9–10, ESV).
Because every baptism in the Bible was by immersion.
“…they both went down into the water, Philip and the eunuch, and he baptized him. And when they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord carried Philip away…,”
(Acts 8:38–39, ESV).
Because immersion best pictures both cleansing from sin and being raised from death to life.
“We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life,”
(Romans 6:4, ESV).
WHO SHOULD BE BAPTIZED?
We practice believer’s baptism. That means that baptism should only happen after a person has personally trusted in Christ as their Savior and Lord. So, anyone and everyone who has turned from sin and trusted Jesus can and should be baptized.
Have you turned from sin and trusted Jesus?
